Anton Smith, CEO

ASAnton had a 30 year career in the packaging industry, working at CEO/Director level and interacting with some of Europe’s largest manufacturers and retailers, including RHM Foods, Mars, Unilever, M and S, Tesco, ASDA and Nestle. After running a Restaurant for 2 years, he qualified as a therapeutic counsellor and subsequently took up a role as a business counsellor. He has started up two of his own businesses, each of which were bought out by national UK companies and with whom he stayed on as divisional CEO. Like all his colleagues, he knows only too well the ups, downs, swings and roundabouts and emotional highs and lows of being an owner-manager. Anton provides Business Counselling, Training and Workshop Facilitation.

Jackie Malton, Director and Chair

Jackie is a UK television script consultant and former senior police officer, best known for being the inspiration for the character of DCI Jane Tennison in the Prime Suspect series, written by Lynda La Plante.

Her police career began in Leicestershire and she subsequently moved to the Metropolitan Police. Jackie is considerably noteworthy for having risen to become a high ranking officer within a very male oriented establishment. Jackie worked in a number of areas, including The Flying Squad, Murder Squad and Fraud Squad. She also acted as a whistle-blower against police corruption in the 1980s.

Following her work with Linda La Plante on Prime Suspect, she worked on Cracker and Band of Gold. Jackie retired from the Met in 1997 to pursue a career in script consultancy and has subsequently worked on a number of television series including The Bill. Jackie has appeared on numerous television and radio programmes over many years and had a radio drama, Be Mine, broadcast on Radio 4 in September 2012.

Jackie is a qualified addiction therapist and is Chair and Trustee of the Youth Empowerment Crime Diversion Scheme,, which helps support young people out of crime and into work.

She also works with offenders in the field of alcohol and drug dependency and has recently qualified with an MSc in Addiction Psychology. Joint CEO Anton Smith has known Jackie for over 20 years and they’ve worked together in the addiction field over that period. He was particularly pleased that she agreed to become a Trustee of ROCBaSE.

Tony Sabey, Director

Tony is an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and registered with the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy.

He trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy in 1997, followed by an MA in transpersonal approaches in 2007. In addition to a private practice in North London, working with individuals and couples, Tony lectures in psychodynamic and person centred counselling at the College of Haringey, Enfield & North East London.

Tony is Clinical Director of Counselling Initiatives, which provides low cost open-ended counselling in the community, which he co-founded in 1999 and of which Anton Smith is Company Secretary and Administrator. Anton and Tony have known each other since 1962. The Counselling Initiatives charity model is that adopted by ROCBaSE. Tony works with addictions through his involvement with the Sporting Chance clinic, founded by the ex-Arsenal and England footballer, Tony Adams, where he facilitates the equine psychotherapy programme.

He is a member of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis & Psychotherapy [IARPP] and the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies [ESTSS].

Tony is currently undertaking doctoral research on complex post traumatic stress arising from attachment trauma in childhood, and is writing a book on the same subject due to be published in June 2014.

Richard Strudwick, Director

Richard has worked predominantly in the enterprise education sector with a keen interest in social enterprise. His strengths lie in strategy, relationship building, people and project management. He is an encourager of change and personal development.

He was the Head of Education at Enterprise UK with whom, under the Make Your Mark brand, he was responsible for distributing enterprise loans, developing a strategy for taking the Charity to the next stage in its development and engaging over 100,000 young people in the Make Your Mark campaign.

For ROCBaSE, Richard is specialising in network & relationships, national partnerships, education links and campaign support.

Richard manages Global Entrepreneurship Week UK strategy and delivery, runs various innovative enterprise projects in the UK and internationally and provides strategic support for ROCBaSe and its clients.

Zarina Naqvi, Patron

We are really grateful that Zarina has agreed to be a Patron. She has a wealth of experience in the business world, which will be of great value to ROCBaSE and its clients.

Her early career was spent as Head of Finance for global enterprises such as USA TODAY (EMEA), Intercontinental Hotels and Se Banken, during periods of vast change. She became an entrepreneur in 1993 and built a successful business which she sold in 2001 after over 7 years of constant expansion.

She subsequently took her traditional business skills and entrepreneurial spirit into the incubating Technology and Internet sectors and became a fulltime consultant, working mainly with privately owned technology and internet businesses, backed by venture capital. Her roles were to improve operations, build structure, secure funding or leverage their core business. She now works with many other sectors and has a broad portfolio of clients.

Zarina has given lectures on various subjects surrounding the internet and business to various organisations including the Institute Of Directors, Chambers of Commerce, Colleges and via workshops to a varied audience. Zarina runs an online gift business, her Management Consultancy is Maxima Associates, she is a governor of Richmond Upon Thames College and a member of the Twickenham Advisory Panel advising Lord Nicholas True, Leader of the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames, on the regeneration of Twickenham Town Centre.

She has a Masters in Technology Entrepreneurship from University College, London and London Business School (2008), is a Fellow of the Institute of Consulting and sits on the London Regional Board.
